Brentwood, MO (KSDK) - A controversial children's book is back in circulation after it was pulled from library shelves in Brentwood.
"Uncle Bobby's Wedding" tells the story of two male guinea pigs that get
married. It was pulled after a parent complained saying the book
influences young children to accept a harmful lifestyle.
The library removed the book, a standard procedure, while the board of directors assessed the situation.
On Thursday NewsChannel 5 learned directors voted unanimously to put it back on the shelves.
"The book came out in 2008. So it's been on our shelves for four years
now and it's been checked out 10 times," says Library Director Vicki
Woods. "So it's not new. It's been challenged at other libraries, and
when it came out in 2008 I think it was the 9th most challenged book in
2008. So it's not unknown for controversy to follow the book."
Woods tells us she heard from the author, who is pleased the library is keeping it in the collection.
